The Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia expresses its heartfelt condolences following the tragic passing of JDSP (27), a Brazilian national who suffered a fatal fall while hiking to the summit of Mount Rinjani, Lombok.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of JDSP, a visitor from Brazil who came to enjoy the natural beauty of Mount Rinjani. On behalf of the Ministry, we extend our sincere condolences to her family and loved ones. We also wish to express our profound gratitude to the joint rescue team for their unwavering commitment in the evacuation efforts,” said Satyawan Pudyatmoko, Director General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation.

The victim’s body was located at the base of a steep cliff approximately 600 meters deep. A coordinated effort by the joint SAR team, under extremely challenging weather and terrain conditions, resulted in a successful recovery. Multiple methods were employed, including rappelling and attempts at aerial evacuation via helicopter. Despite the difficulties, the team remained resolute in ensuring a respectful and safe retrieval.

According to Yarman, Head of Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR), the recovery was completed at 13:51 WITA (Central Indonesian Time), after which the body was transported to the Sembalun Resort. It was then formally handed over to the victim's family and transferred to Bhayangkara Hospital in West Nusa Tenggara.

Satyawan also reminded all hikers to prioritize safety and undertake thorough preparation before engaging in mountain activities. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to enhancing safety, infrastructure, and visitor services across Indonesia’s national parks.
